Griffon Hoverwork’s travel to Peru to conduct maintenance and pilot training
Griffon Hoverwork’s training and support team travelled to Peru where they spent five weeks with the Peruvian Navy conducting maintenance and pilot training and helped to set up the Navy’s new training facility in Iquitos.
Griffon’s training and support team trained and certified four maintenance instructors from the Peruvian Navy who went on to certify seven maintenance engineers to Level 1. A further ten maintenance engineers and ten trainee pilots were awarded craft introduction certificates. During their final exams everyone achieved over 70% with some achieving 94%.
Griffon’s chief pilot trained and certified five pilot instructors, the instructors then went on to train new pilots. Craft introduction certificates were also awarded to four Officers, one of whom will be the next base commander at Pitchari.
Griffon’s support team also helped set up the Peruvian Navy’s training facility, specifically by unpacking and assembling the training mock up hovercraft which was then used as part of an engineering and pilot training aid.
The Peruvian Navy have a total of 7 Griffon hovercraft. The craft are deployed in the northern Amazonian rivers in an enforcement and counter narcotics role patrolling the Peruvian-Colombian border. With several bases along the river, the hovercraft give the Navy the capability to patrol 300km of border.
